95 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "As is typical with this great premier cru, the 2011 Gouges Vaucrains is quite a bit more reserved and structured out of the blocks than either the Clos des Porrets or the Pruliers this year. The nose offers up stunning promise, delivering scents of red and black cherries, pomegranate, dark soil tones, incipient notes of bonfire, gamebirds, a touch of blood orange, raw cocoa and again, plenty of violets in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and strikingly pure and soil-driven, with a rock solid core, stunning focus and balance, firm, chewy tannins and brilliant length and grip on the very youthful finish. 2025-2075+. (Nov/Dec 2012)"

92-94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "(cropped at just 24 hectoliters per hectare, according to Gregory Gouges, who noted that the 2011 version of this wine includes a small percentage of 15-year-old vines): Bright dark red. Sexy, vivacious, very pure aromas of cassis, minerals, bitter chocolate and licorice. Suave and silky on the palate, with uncommon delicacy for Vaucrains, not to mention terrific energy. Sappy, fine-grained and sweet, with a very long, fruit-driven finish that titillates the taste buds. This lovely Vaucrains avoids the chocolatey superripeness I often find in the warmest vintages. (Jan/Feb 2013)"

91-93 points and 'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(a 1 ha mix of younger and older vines that average about 50+ years of age). This is also somewhat toasty though not so much that the earthy, ripe and distinctly sauvage aromas of plum and cassis cannot be appreciated. The palate impression is strikingly rich and muscular and the typical bold and brash flavors of a classic Vaucrains are present before terminating in a wonderfully intense, austere and hugely long finish. As is almost always the case with the Gouges Vaucrains, this is very firmly structured and will need all of a decade and very probably then some to fully mature. (Jan 2013)"
