94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "One of the nicest side effects of my completing my historical feature on the Gouges family earlier this year was my finally understanding just how brilliant a bottling the Clos des Porrets is here year in and year out. The 2014 looks destined to be a reference point vintage for this fine terroir, as the wine is very refined on both the nose and palate out of the blocks. The superb bouquet is a blend of red and black cherries, coffee, pigeon, a gorgeous base of soil tones, fresh herbs and a hint of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and properly reserved in personality, with a great core of pure fruit, fine soil signature and a very, very long, fine-grained finish. This will be a supremely elegant vintage of Clos des Porrets. 2024-2065. (Nov/Dec 2015)"
94 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "A vibrant and attractive cherry red, with an absolutely beautiful bouquet, very elegant for Nuits. Now it has gone oaky and biscuity. The fruit is vivid on the palate, so too the oak which adds its own tannins. But all the above is coherent for a classically long-term Gouges wine. Excellent length and depth of aftertaste. (Jun 2024)"
91-94 points Fine Wine Review: "The Clos des Porêts features blueberry fruit and minerality in a medium-light body that is dense and smooth, although the tannins are more evident here than in the preceding wines. (12/21/17)"
93 points (16.5/20) La Revue du Vin de France (Jan 2018).
90-93 points and 'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(a 3.5 ha monopole with 30+ year old vines). Once again reduction dominates. By contrast there is a really lovely freshness and vibrancy to the intense and focused middle weight plus flavors that culminate in a powerful, rustic and beautifully persistent finish. This is a classic Nuits that is going to require close to a decade to be approachable and should reward 12 to 15 years of cellaring. Drink: 2026+. (Jan 2016)"
91 points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): "Good dark red. Laid-back aromas of currant, raspberry, smoke and earth. Quite dry and classic, with its dark raspberry, chocolate, spice and soil flavors showing a saline complexity if less plushness and sweetness than the 2015 version. Builds nicely on the back end, finishing with rather refined tannins. The crop level here was a reasonable 36 hectoliters per hectare. Drink: 2021-2028. (Mar 2017)"
91 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges from Henri Gouges has a pretty and winsome bouquet with pure red cherry and wild strawberry fruit, elegant and stylish, the oak neatly integrated but giving the aromatics lift. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red berry fruit, a fine line of acidity, very cohesive, but then...ugh...it just cuts away so swiftly that you are left feeling severely shortchanged by the absence of aftertaste. Maybe that will develop with bottle age? This was heading toward a much higher score until that. Tasted September 2017. Drink: 2020-2035. (Oct 2017)"
