93 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "From a south-facing parcel that was once the cemetery of the monks who planted the first vineyards in Celles-sur-Ource, the NV Extra-Brut Champ Viole is drawn from a perpetual reserve spanning the 2011-2018 vintages that's been matured in tank. Delivering complex aromas of pear, sweet orchard fruit, white flowers, buttery pastry and nutmeg, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and seamless, with a deep core of fruit, racy acids and a pillowy mousse. Drink: 2023-2040. (8/10/23)"

93 points La Revue du Vin de France: "The Chardonnay in Champ Viole is more patisserie in its expression, with notes of brioche and salted butter. Once again, very delicate bubbles and a soft, quilted mousse. Champagnes with substance and beautiful tactile qualities. Well done! (2024)"

92 points Anne Krebiehl, MW (Vinous): "The NV Extra Brut Champ Viole is a pure Chardonnay from a single-south-facing parcel in Celles-sur-Ource from a perpetual reserve containing the years 2011-2019, bottled in 2020. Summer blossom, jasmine and lemon make for a fragrant, bright nose. The palate is light, pervaded by the finest mousse. Everything is bright, juicy, vivid, animated, lively, slender, agile and mobile. There is a deep sense of fruit and so much resonance and depth. This is an unusual Blanc de Blancs from the Côte des Bar with an extra and beguiling dimension. Disgorged: July, 2023. Drink: 2024-2032. (Mar 2024)"

92 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Aurélien Gerbais has just launched this range of new, single parcel bottlings, all based on a series of soleras he has begun for each wine. The new releases all hail from the base year of 2017, with the perpetual reserve cuvées having been started several years before and added to the base year. Each bottling is also a single cépages, with the Champ Viole parcel being planted to chardonnay and the solera for this bottling started in 2011. The vins clairs for this wine were aged in cask until June of 2018, half of the bottling is comprised of perpetual reserve wine and the new release was disgorged in April of 2021 and finished with a dosage of three grams per liter. It delivers a splendid nose of pear, delicious apple, hazelnut, chalky soil tones, fresh-baked bread and just a touch of buttery oak. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and zesty, with a full-bodied format, a rock solid core of fruit, outstanding mineral drive and cut, snappy acids, pinpoint bubbles and a long, complex and very nicely balanced finish. This could do with a year or two in the cellar to let its acids relax a bit more, but in a pinch, it is already pretty tasty! A fine new range from Monsieur Gerbais! 2024-2045. (Nov/Dec 2021)"
