98 points Kerin O'Keefe: "Aromas of rose, violet, red woodland berry and star anise mingle with whiffs of camphor and new leather on this fragrant, gorgeous Barolo. Majestic and supremely elegant, it delivers juicy raspberry compote, baking spice and licorice alongside supple, polished tannins. Hints of crushed mint add depth to the close. It’s already accessible but will age well for years. Drink through 2033. (Oct 2022)."
97 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2018 Barolo Sperss is a gorgeous, gorgeous wine. The aromatics alone are beguiling. Then again, that's one of the things that makes Barolo such a totally seductive wine. Sweet black cherry, lavender, spice and leather give this unusually translucent Barolo striking layers of dimension. Potent Serralunga tannins are present, but they are beautifully woven into the wine's fabric. Sadly, production is around 11,000 bottles, down sharply from the 18,000 or so that is more typical. Drink: 2028-2045. (Feb 2022)"
97 points Falstaff Guide: "Brilliant, brightening ruby. Dense and compact nose, ripe fruit notes, of plum, rose petals and truffle with subtle smokey notes. Impressive on the palate, shows a lot of grippy, tightly meshed tannins, pithy, has the firm character of Serralunga wines, earthy notes on the finish. Alcohol 14%. (10/7/22)"
95 points James Suckling: "Lots of rose-petal aromas here, together with some stems and sandalwood, as well plums and berries. Medium-bodied with a tight palate and very fine tannins that run the length of the wine. Linear and focused. Hints of nutmeg and pie crust highlight the palate. Approachable. now, but needs at last three or four years to open. Try after 2026. (10/2/22)"
