100 points Ian D'Agata Wine Review: "Though this might surprise some readers, the unassailable fact is that, in recent years, the best wine from GB Burlotto has not been the ultra-famous Barolo Monvigliero, but his Barolo Cannubi. Clearly, the two wines are extremely different and comparing them is unfair, besides unrealistic; but I can’t help but wonder if the soil clay content in the estate’s Cannubi Valletta holdings isn’t a huge advantage to Monvgliero’s soil reality in these times of climate-change. (Beware that people speak of Cannubi as if it were one vineyard, but that’s insane, given that, for example, the Cannubi Valletta, Cannubi Boschis, and the Cannubi Muscatel portions of the extended Cannubi hill have little if nothing in common with the central part of Cannubi.) No matter, both these GB Burlotto wines are mesmerizingly great and it is no different in 2021. Which you will like better amounts to a case of different strokes for different folks. The 2021 Cannubi Barolo from GB. Burlotto has a beautiful deep red colour. Heady, perfumed sweet spices, ripe red and black cherry, blueberry, and violet aromas are complicated by hints of cedar, graphite, cocoa and minerals. A rather big and tactile Barolo Cannubi in 2021, but very rich and suave, it boasts flavours of utmost purity that echo its aromas. The aftertaste is long, full and polished. As I have mentioned before, general director and winemaker Fabio Alessandria leaves the Cannubi last in his tastings because of its bigger structure (and slightly less elegance) than the Monvigliero, and you should do the same (at dinners too, unless you have Amarones or similarly big wines in store for your guests too). Drinking window: 2030-2044. (Nov 2024)"

100 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2021 Barolo Cannubi is dense and powerful right out of the gate. Broad, ample and explosive, the 2021 has it all. Time in the glass brings out the wine's aromatic presence. Readers will find a Barolo of tremendous structure and pedigree. Blue-toned fruit, leather, licorice, incense and dried flowers are all amplified to the maximum. All this needs is time. The only question is how much. Sadly, production is just 4,000 bottles. Magnificent. Drink 2029-2046 (Jan 2025)"

99 points Audrey Frick (JebDunnuck.com): "The nose of the 2021 Barolo Cannubi takes on more depth and a very complete feel. For lovers of great Burgundy, this might be a better fit than the Monvigliero, offering notes of ripe raspberries, fresh rosy perfume, wild herbs, apricot, and dried earth. The palate is gorgeous and elegantly layered, with refined tannins, seamless refreshing acidity, and a long-lasting finish. It’s one of the standouts of the vintage, though each of the wines in the range are distinctive and singular in their own right and, I imagine, could flip at any given tasting for top marks. Drink 2026-2056. (May 2025)"

99 points Monica Larner (Wine Advocate): "Another stunning wine from Comm. G.B. Burlotto, the 2021 Barolo Cannubi is gorgeous with silky and long-lasting sensations. I love the shape of this wine, its contoured profile, linearity and neatly tucked-in elegance. There are no loose ends, with stacked aromas of cherry, blue flower and dusty chalk that extend to the fine-knit texture of the mouthfeel. Vintner Fabio Alessandria leaves us all wondering how he achieves this magic. Drink 2027-2060 (Jan 2025)"

97 points Michaela Morris (Decanter): "The Alessandria family has owned less than 1ha in the Valletta sub district of Cannubi for over 100 years. Replanted with a massal selection in 1988, their plot is in a fresh, east-facing pocket within the warm expanse of this famed site. Rather than bursting from the glass, this nuanced and sophisticated wine reveals like a thrilling slow-burn romance. Scents of cinnamon, mint and crushed allspice flowers flirt attractively. A richness of dark red berries expands on the palate, intensifying with accents of wet soil and fennel. Tactile and clingy, it seems so effortlessly midweight yet fine, long-grain tannins build with power. Citrussy mouth-cleansing acidity melts into the crystalline mineral finish. Drinking window 2026-2039 (Jan 2025)"

95 points Kerin O'Keefe: "Camphor, pressed rose petal and cedar aromas waft out of the glass along with dark culinary spice. Full-bodied and elegantly structured, the tense palate offers red cherry, cranberry and ground clove alongside tightly woven, close-grained tannins. It’s still youthfully austere and needs time to fully unwind and develop. Drink 2023–2036. (Jan 2025)"

95 points James Suckling: "A graceful Barolo that shows aromas of smoke, licorice, violets, delicate red currants and strawberries. It’s restrained and elegant on the palate, with a slight sweetness, a medium to full body, refreshing acidity and ripe, chewy tannins. Tight and savory. There is a huge structure that’s well covered by the fruit. Drinkable now, but best from 2026 or 2027. (Jan 2025)"
