92 points Michaela Morris (Decanter): "Giovanni Manetti’s seven-hectare slice of Lamole has been in his extended family for years. He was instrumental in replanting the decades-old vineyards 20 to 25 years ago, and left just a few old vines pushing a century. While the 2021 exhibits the fine, elegant frame of this high-altitude subzone, it packs a bit more substance than previous editions. A panoply of savoury herbs, juniper and heather surge from the glass. The palate exhibits lovely clarity and energetic acidity, gently wrapped in long, flowy, confident tannins. And through the dark red cherry core, lightness and brightness radiate. Alcohol 14.0%. Drinking Window: 2024-2033. (2/14/24)"
Producer notes: "This Chianti Classico by Fontodi comes to life from the Filetta vineyard located 600 meters above sea level in the Lamole are in Tuscany. Pure Sangiovese, it is obtained from organic viticulture. The must ferments in steel with maceration on the skins. The wine is then left to age for 24 months in large French oak barrels. The color is intense and brilliant ruby red. On the nose it expresses aromas of cherry and berries, with references to licorice, tobacco and violet. On the palate it is elegant and sapid with great aromatic complexity, and a fresh and persistent finish. Suitable to accompany stewed meats and roasts, it can be appreciated in combination with aged cheeses."
