93-95 points Jasper Morris, MW: "Just 50 hl from 2.20ha, so the volume is well down. Fine bright pure with an underlying concentration and much more spice. Not a rich fruit sunshine but a spicy one. Immense intensity behind. Keeps coming back. This delivers a huge mouthful, almost more characteristic of a red wine rather than the sort of Chablis one might pair with a crustacean. Tasted: May 2018."
94 points Michael Edwards (The World of Fine Wine): "With characteristic grip and force, this has almost grand cru uality. The fine-drawn fluid style of 2017 gives a new face to this cru--subtly powerful without loss of purity or elan. Class. (Issue 63; 2019)"
93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "As the vineyard of Montée de Tonnerre was one of the most-affected premier crus by the April frosts, I was worried this wine might show as a bit of an outlier stylistically in the lineup, but the wine was racy and absolutely classical in profile. The bouquet is very precise and complex, soaring from the glass in a fine blaze of pear, lime, kaleidoscopic limestone minerality, white flowers, citrus zest and a nice topnote of beeswax. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and properly reserved structurally, with a rock solid core, great mineral drive, bright, snappy acids and laser-like focus on the very long and very electric finish. This is an outstanding bottle of Montée de Tonnerre in the making. 2022-2050. (Nov/Dec 2018)"
93 points James Suckling: "Very attractive, fresh peach and lemon aromas here with some gentle, biscuit and pastry-like, savory nuances. The palate has very expressive and mouth-filling white peaches and lemons with toasted-hazelnut flavors that warm the long, succulent finish. An excellent Montée. Drink or hold. (8/14/19)"
91-93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2017 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru comes from 2.2-ha of vine, harvested around 22hl/ha. It has a crisp, slightly floral bouquet with oyster leaf, dill, fresh citrus fruit and a touch of wet limestone. The palate is lively and fresh in the mouth and shows a little more depth and concentration than the Mont de Milieu. It flows and fans out nicely towards the finish and should offer several years of drinking pleasure. Drink: 2020-2034. (Aug 2018)"
90-93 points and 'Sweet spot/Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from two .5 ha parcels divided between frac14; Pied d'Aloup, frac14; Côte de Bréchain and the rest from Chapelot). An elegant, pure and airy nose combines notes of white flowers, citrus, lemon-lime and plenty of classic Chablis character. There is also excellent volume, density and power to the refined medium-bodied flavors that presently are not quite as complex as they usually are on the lingering finish. The underlying material however appears to be first-rate and as such my predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt that more depth will develop with time. Drink: 2023+. (Oct 2018)"
