91-93 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Lavrottes is located in the north of the appellation that was less affected by the frost, so this was cropped at around 25 hectoliters per hectare. It was harvested toward the end of the harvest to gain concentration, includes 30% whole-bunch fruit and was raised in 50% new oak. I like the nose. Gentle at first, then opening its arms and revealing lovely redcurrant, cranberry and crushed strawberry aromas tinged with gravel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannin, a fine bead of acidity and good structure—you can feel this gripping the mouth so that the saline finish is almost like a Morey-Saint-Denis. This is a great wine and it should provide longevity if you swing that way. Drink: 2021-2038. (12/29/17)"

90-93 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from yields of 25 hl/ha and 35% whole cluster). Reduction currently dominates the nose but there is excellent intensity, freshness and concentration to the muscular medium weight plus flavors that offer very fine depth and persistence on the more obviously structured and borderline rustic finish. As is usually the case this is less refined than the Fuées but what isn't always the case is that it's actually more complex. Patience. Drink: 2026+. (Jan 2018)"

92 points William Kelley (Decanter): "Tasted from a new barrel, the Lavrottes reveals an incipiently complex bouquet of red and black cherry, plums and violets, framed by spicy oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, powerful and concentrated, with a firm chassis of fine tannins cloaked in a deep core of fruit. From 22 year old vines in this seldom-seen premier cru just below Bonnes-Mares. Drinking Window: 2025-2042. (10/19/17)"

A rarely seen vineyard uniquely sandwiched between Bonnes Mares, Les Fuees and Les Gruenchers. With the onset of global warming, upper slope vineyards in Chambolle such as these are becoming all the rage, as the shallower soils and cooler temps have brought once "tighter" wines into better balance.
