95 points Jasper Morris, MW: "Bright purple, reductive stemmy nose, which in youth overlays the typicity of Clos St Jacques. There is a huge weight of fruit throughout, dark raspberry, lively vibrant and long, though as ever here the winemaking style, at least in youth, dominates over the terroir. Still, a grand and enjoyable wine, and these days Sylvie's marked winemaking style is much better integrated than in the past. Tasted: September 2019."

93-95 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "...60% whole bunch fruit... What strikes you is the sheer untrammelled energy contained in this Clos Saint-Jacques that immediately revivified the senses. It feels extremely harmonious, the new oak holding a sway upon the final third at the moment but given the requisite bottle age then that will be assimilated. As usual, it is a Clos Saint-Jacques that leans more towards black than red fruit but there is great precision and length in situ. 2022-2042. (Dec 2017)"

94 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru is darker in colour than its peers. The bouquet is driven by a lot of new oak (indicating that it is probably from Sylvie Esmonin), though there is sufficient fruit to support it. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, very structured and with dense red fruit that grips the mouth. There is fine sapidity towards the finish and although it is, as usual, the most impenetrable of the Clos Saint-Jacques, give it 15 to 20 years in bottle. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. Drink: 2024-2045. (Oct 2019)"
