98 points Bettanne & Desseauve (2024).

97 points Tyson Stelzer (The Champagne Guide): "(2014 base vintage; disgorged July 2022; tasted in 2023 in Australia; 70% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay from Ambonnay, Bouzy and Verzenay; 2014 base vintage; aged 7 years on lees; disgorged July 2022; 3g/L dosage). The energy and freshness of 2014 are transcendental in the hands of Egly, driving a magic palate of citrus zest freshness and strawberry hull tang, bathed in the brilliant chalk minerality that only Ambonnay can achieve. This is a blend of monumental energy and stamina, with a huge future before it! Epic VP. (Edition VII; 2024)"

96 points/'Le Coup de Coeur,' La Revue du Vin de France: "On a 2015 base and after 87 months on lees, VP reveals a magnificent wine, endowed with great complexity. On the palate, it imposes its diffused power at the heart of a beautiful energy. (2025)"

95 points Audrey Frick (JebDunnuck.com): "The NV Champagne Grand Cru VP Viellisement Prolongent Extra Brut (which I believe is based on the 2014 vintage, with 2012 and 2013 reserve wine) is expressive and elegant with ripe pineapple, lemon custard, and white flowers. The mousse is elegant, and it’s long on the palate, with another level of refinement and precision. There’s more focus here, with great length and a wonderful and balanced savory edge. At this stage, it still feels like it would benefit from more time in bottle. Drink 2024-2042. This spent 7 years on the lees before disgorgement. Drink: 2024-2042. (11/17/23)"

94 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "As usual, the latest disgorgement of Egly's NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru V.P., this year based on the 2015 vintage complemented by reserve wines from 2014 and 2013, is one of the highlights of the range. Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, green apple, freshly baked bread, crushed mint, honeycomb, white flowers and praline, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a racy and concentrated core, a pretty pinpoint mousse and a long, saline finish. Drink: 2023-2035. (12/14/23)"

94 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The NV (2015) Extra Brut VP (Viellissement Prolongé) is a gorgeous wine. After 84 months in the cellar and almost a year post-disgorgement, the 2015 base is ready to offer plenty of pleasure. Tangerine peel, dried orange peel, spice, mint, apricot and lightly honeyed notes all develop effortlessly. The 2015 is not an especially rich V.P. but it has plenty to offer. Dosage is 2 grams per liter. Disgorged: July 2023. Drink: 2024-2039. (Nov 2023)"

94 points Tom Hewson (Decanter): "This is the same as the Grand Cru bottling but with extended lees ageing and, in this case, three years post-disgorgement. The lees ageing brings a remarkable aromatic range and substance on the palate – almost mascarpone with peach tart, macadamia nuts and dried berries, certainly showing some evolution on cork now with a thread of toasted nut and dried spice on the close. Hugely characterful and impressive for a wine of this age based on the complicated 2011 vintage. 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, with 66% reserves from 2010 and 2009, disgorged in 2019. Drinking Window: 2024-2029. (1/7/24)"

Importer notes: "This wine is Egly's treasure; with more than SIX YEARS on its lees, 'V.P.' (in French, 'extended aging') is a testament both to the greatness of his terroir and to his vision as an uncompromising Champagne artist. A blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, pulled from older vines in the three finest villages in the Montaigne de Reims."

Richard Juhlin: "This firm was established in 1930 and nowadays Michel Egly owns 7.7 hectares at Ambonnay, a third of a hectare at Bouzy and one and a half a hectare at Verzenay as well as 2 hectares Meunier in Vrigny. The average age of the vines is 35 years, with 60 years for the prestige wines. The wines are phenomenally great and rich. The grower is very close to gaining five stars through his fantastic development in recent years. Probably the foremost grower of Pinot Noir in the entire Champagne region nowadays..."
