93 points Robert Parker: "The 1990 Cabernet Sauvignon-Napa is an opaque, awesomely concentrated, tannic wine with little aromatic development. At this early stage, the 1990 Napa and Howell Mountain Cabernets do not appear to be as super-concentrated as Dunn's wines from the early and mid-eighties. The Howell Mountain is slightly more tannic, and the Napa more open. Both possess a tell-tale mineral, cassis, flowery nose, and rich, full-bodied, dense, highly extracted, tannic personalities. (10/25/93)"

92 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, ripe and concentrated, with a tough edge of tannin but plenty of berry, currant and plum fruit showing through. A massive wine that holds together nicely on the finish. Best after 1998. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 1,900 cases made. (11/15/93)"
