95 points Fine Wine Review: "The Grands-Echézeaux is a major step up, showing wonderful Pinot stink that is complex and deep, even if relatively reticent for the moment. In the mouth, the wine displays calm with just a touch of sappiness on the palate and great finesse to its long, succulent blackberry and cassis flavors. 2016-2044. (Issue #118; 2006)"

93 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "The herbal tea-tinged nose has gone almost completely secondary in character with notes of distinctly spicy and softly earthy red berry fruit aromas. There remains good vibrancy and delineation to the delicious middle weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the nicely complex and sneaky long finish. This is really quite pretty and in particular I like the depth. I would add that this is less '04-like than many examples and a solid success in the context of the vintage. Lastly, for my taste this has arrived at its apogee though it should have no trouble holding at this level for another decade. Tasted several times recently with largely similar results. Drink: Now+. (Sep 2020)"

91-92 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "As is so often the case in the Drouhin portfolio of grand crus, the 2004 Grands Echézeaux is the most flamboyant and open for inspection of all the wines I have tasted today. The bouquet is deep and enticing, jumping from the glass in a blend of plums, red cherries, cocoa powder, minerals, a bit of game, vanillin oak and a vaguely violet topnote. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, and fairly sweet on the attack, with a rock solid core, ripe tannins, sound acids, and good length and grip on the finish. There is a bit of stemminess that perks up just on the finish, but this will dissolve with bottle age. 2010-2025. (Jan/Feb 2006)"
