97 points Decanter: "Nahe grower Dönnhoff would be in most people’s top 10 in German dry Riesling. The estate dates back to 1750. Helmut Dönnhoff has recently ceded his place to his son Cornelius but he remains very much a part of the furniture. There are 25ha of vines grown on a mixture of slate, sandstone and the volcanic soils so typical of this part of the Nahe. The best wines are from sites such as Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle, Norheimer Dellchen and Schlossböckelheimer Felsenberg. Drinking Window: 2020-2030."

96 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "Dönnhoff's iconic 2014 Riesling Hermannshöhle GG opens with a beautifully clear, coolish and smoky/fumy bouquet of great purity, precision and aromatic complexity. Think of intermingling lemon and slate aromas. The attack on the palate is racy and clear, and the wine starts straightly dancing over the palate. This is concentrated, perfectly ripe Riesling on the knife's edge; it's nicely piquant, highly mineral and endlessly salty. There are notes of melting stones and mineral, with great tension. "The vines are older in the Hermannshöhle, one plot is as old as I am," says Dönnhoff, who was born in 1949. (Mar 2016)"

94+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The Grosses Gewächs from the Hermannshöhle in 2014 is another outstanding wine in the making, offering up a superb and utterly suave aromatic mélange of grapefruit, tart orange, slate, wild yeasts, citrus peel and a lovely, discreet topnote of white flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and full-bodied, with a superb core of fruit, ripe, seamless acids and superb length and grip on the tightly-knit finish. A really superb and suave young Hermannshöhle GG. 2022-2060. (Mar/Apr 2015)"

94 points David Schildknecht (Vinous): "A haunting nose mingles buddleia and almond extract with intimations of the white peach, Meyer lemon and grapefruit that then juicily and bracingly saturate the palate. A stony undertone, hints of iodine, and a glowing alliance of cyanic peach kernel and almond lend intrigue if also a touch of austerity, leading into a terrifically sustained and multifaceted finish capped by mouthwatering salinity. As with the corresponding Dellchen, I have little doubt that this will improve in bottle, but that doesn’t mean one should deny oneself the succulent and refreshing as well as complex pleasure of drinking a youthful bottle or two. Drink: 2016-2030. (May 2016)"
