93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The profound slate soils of the Hermannshöhle have turned out a stunningly beautiful dry riesling in 2005 (no doubt with a bit of an assist from Herr Dönnhoff), and this beautiful wine may shake a few shared convictions that Spätlese is the ripeness level that offers the greatest expression of riesling as a transparent vehicle for expressing the glories of terroir. The bouquet on the 2005 Hermannshöhle trocken is profound, as it soars from the glass in a blaze of pink grapefruit, lychee, a bit of banana, lavender and stunning minerality. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, deep and intensely flavored, with a glorious core of fruit, brilliant focus and structure, and stunning grip on the very, very long, soil-driven and racy finish. This is just a brilliant bottle of dry riesling that may have could send tremors across the landscape of Ribeauvillé. 2008-2030. (Jul/Aug 2006)"
