93 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): "Opaque ruby. Captivating scents of cherry-cola, cassis, tobacco and rose. Lush cherry compote and dark berry flavors are framed by velvety tannins and given spine by juicy acidity. Reaches every corner of the palate, with spice and pepper note adding vibrancy. The finish is expansive, sweet and extremely persistent. This is built to age but offers plenty of appeal right now. (Jan/Feb 2010)"

92 points Wine Spectator: "[$80 list] Shows the forward, ripe profile of the vintage, with delicious plum, violet, black licorice and fig notes backed by velvety texture and lots of fruitcake and spice on the finish. Lush and flattering. Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre. 491 cases made. (5/19/10)"

92 points Jeb Dunnuck (Rhone Report): "A blend of most Grenache and a dash of Syrah, the 2007 Domaine de la Solitude (Lancon Pere et Fils) Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Barberini has 1/3 of the blend spending 12 months in new oak barrels. This elevage shows and the wine has deep, decadent aromas of smoked blackberries, new oak, spice, licorice and campfire. Despite the oak overlay, there's solid underlying fruit and depth. How the oak integrates will be interesting to follow, but I lead towards the wine being able to handle it. On the palate, this is medium to full bodied with ripe, concentrated fruit, an edgy, precise texture, fresh acidity and a tannic, firm finish. Modern but very well done. Give these 3 to 5 years in the cellar and then drink over the following 10 to 15. (May 2010)"

91+ points Robert Parker: "The most internationally-styled effort is the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Barberini, a blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre. The Grenache was aged in tank, and the Syrah and Mourvedre spend time in small barrels. It boasts a dense purple color as well as notes of toasty oak, graphite, blackberries, and lavender. Locked and loaded, intense, and full-bodied with mouth-searing levels of tannin and extract, this is undeniably a vin de garde that needs 3-4 years of bottle age; it should keep for two decades or more. (Oct 2009)"

4 stars, 'Highly Recommended,' Decanter: "Flashy, forward, oak-driven with ripe, modern, generous fruit behind. Spicy backbone. Long. From 2010. (Dec 2010)"
