96 points La Revue du Vin de France: "The slightly reduced Volnay En Champans opens delicately before a firmer hand structures the finish. (2026)"

92-95 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "50% whole bunch vinification. A lighter ruby purple. The fruit and floral characters combined beautifully on the nose. This dances across the palate, showing a little more barrel at the finish, but that is temporary. An excellent red berry fruit surges across the finish line. (Oct 2024)"

92-94 points Fine Wine Review: "Precise, focused pure, fresh, crisp. Not blocky the way Champans can be at some addresses. Bunches from clay soils at the bottom of Champans are destemmed, but not those from the limestone soils at the top of the vineyard. 1/3 whole cluster, 1/3 new oak. (3/3/25)"

93 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com): "There were two tanks, and Brian had to moderate his whole cluster usage for space: one was one-third stems and the other one-half. The tannins have an appealing rustic edge at the moment, accentuated by raspy acidity. But, the palate is plump with red and black fruits that stick. Give it a few years to turn on its full charm. (2025).

91-93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2023 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru, which includes one-third whole cluster, has an open, transparent bouquet with red cherries, raspberries and light rose petal scents—crisp and edgy in terms of delineation. The palate is taut and fresh, a little lighter and more nimble than the previous vintage, with finer tannins and a chalky-textured finish. Classy. Drink: 2027-2045. (Jan 2025)" 92 points CellarTracker.com community score.

89-92 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .97 ha holding). An appealingly layered mix of poached plum, red currant and violet is complemented by the super-sleek, refined and lightly stony flavors that also possess acceptable density while displaying solid length on the moderately austere finale. This cool and restrained effort could also use more depth so a few years of keeping are recommended. Drink: 2031+. (Apr 2025)"
