A shot of sharp intense strawberry and raspberry fruit hits the palate, super succulent and instantly mouthwatering, quite lean and linear though there is a nice expansion of fruit flavours while the tannins stay quite firm and straight. Touching on austere and severe but the softly plump juiciness keeps this enjoyable and there is layering of elements. Acidity is on the prominent side but this is quite captivating with crunchy, bright, just-ripe red fruits and chalky texture on the finish. Yield: 35 hl/ha. 30% new oak barrels. Heavy clay soils before you hit limestone here, and the wine delivers unusual levels of sappy, pummice stone, juicy austerity for the vintage. Almost a granite edge to the tannins, floral aromatic intensity, bring blue and red fruits, and subtle spices of dill, sage and saffran. Excellent quality and value. 35hl/h yield, 30% new oak. Subtle herbal savouriness, black forest berries, hints of blackberries and liquorice. It has a beautifully finessed nose, with well-defined violet fragrance, alongside little dried berry fruits and currants, and a touch of aromatic rose. The palate continues with this focused style, with a rather juicy core of fruit, and a rich backbone of tightly knit and powdery tannins. Charming, straight-sided, with bright acidity, this is a fine result or d’Aiguilhe, and I think it will age very well. The alcohol on the label is 14%. (Dec 2024)"
