100 points James Suckling: "Smelling this takes my breath away. Cloves, floras, metal shavings, blackberries and smoked meat. Mandarin zest, too. Full body with a perfect balance of ultra-fine tannins and great complexity. Goes on for minutes. Sets a new standard of syrah for California. Don't wait to drink this. (2/8/18)"

99 points Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate): "Very deep garnet-purple, the 2015 IX Syrah Estate opens with intense crushed black cherries, black plums and mulberries with underlying black pepper, peppered salami, violets and chocolate box plus a lovely star anise and sandalwood waft. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and wonderfully soft and sexy, it gives tons of perfumed black fruit and spice cake layers, finishing very long. Drink: 2018-2038. (10/31/17)"

96-99 points Robert Parker: "Their spectacular 2015 Syrah IX Estate reveals abundant floral notes that suggest co-fermented Viognier, but it is 100% Syrah, as it is in every vintage. A seamless classic with gorgeous blackberry fruit intermixed with roasted meat and floral notes, this tastes like a French Northern Rhône, but with the power and octane of California fruit (15.4% natural alcohol). A wonderful wine of succulence, richness, layers of fruit and built like a skyscraper, this is a killer effort and should drink beautifully for 20 or more years. Drink: 2016-2036. (12/30/16)"

98 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2015 Syrah is a total knock-out. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, rose petal and mint are some of the notes that race out of the glass, but here, too, it is the wine's stunning textural richness that stands out most. Full-throttle and intense in every dimension, the 2015 captivates all the senses with its magnificent, towering beauty. I would prefer to cellar the 2015 for at least a few years, but even today, in its primary stage, the 2015 is phenomenal. Drink: 2022-2035. (Jan 2018)"

97 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I compared the 2015 Syrah to an Hermitage from Chapoutier on release, and I stand by that comparison today. Sporting a deep purple hue as well as incredible aromatics of darker berries, ground pepper, candied violets, and cured meats, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a layered, elegant mouthfeel, beautiful freshness, and a great finish. It’s drinking beautifully today yet has another 15 years of prime drinking ahead of it. Drink: 2023-2038. (2/16/23)"
