Enters silky and perfumed, with concentrated flavours of red and black and cherry, blood orange, sandalwood, forest floor and aromatic herbs. Finishes long and savoury boasting impeccable balance and precision. Less exotic and fuller-bodied than the 2021 Cascina Nuova, this is another beautiful Barolo from Cogno. Valter Fissore’s wines appear to have mellowed in the last few years, so while powerfully structured and ageworthy as befits a classic vintage, this version of Ravera is already very approachable, courtesy of some absolutely succulent ripe cherry fruit. The tannins have almost a crystalline quality, and the fruit quality is superb throughout. This is always a reliable buy despite the high(ish) price tag, and it is again in this outstanding vintage.
