92+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2004 Vaucrains from the Chevillon family is a fine bottle that is far better than the vintage’s reputation might suggest. The bouquet is deep, pure and complex, wafting from the glass in a red fruity mix of cherries, blood orange, a great base of soil, pigeon, vanillin oak and a dollop of fresh herb tones. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and focused, with a fine core of fruit, excellent soil signature and grip, a bit of backend tannin and fine balance on the long and complex finish. Just a lovely bottle of 2004 red Burgundy that shows not all was a disaster in this vintage! 2022-2045. (May/Jun 2020)"

90-92 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Good medium red. Pure aromas of raspberry, cherry and minerals. Fat, ripe and sweet but light on its feet, with a stony character giving an impression of energy to the wine. This builds impressively on the back end, finishing with substantial sweet tannins and superb length. (Mar/Apr 2006)"

91 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "An atypically high-toned nose of briar, wood spice and red pinot fruit aromas laced with warm earth and hints of smoke and game lead to sweet, sappy, intense and structured flavors that offer good if not outstanding concentration yet the power, length, balance and overall punch are most impressive. As it usually is, this is a serious wine though more elegant than normal and finishes with a classically complex and firmly structured backend that is fresh and vibrant. An excellent '04 and recommended. Drink: 2011+. (Jan 2007)"
