94 points James Suckling: "Plenty of menthol, blackberry and blackcurrant aromas in this elegant, medium-weight Haut-Médoc that’s got as much freshness as ripeness and a long, clean, mineral and herbal finish. An incredibly food-flexible wine! Drink or hold. (2/3/19)"

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Well-integrated tannins give this wine a rich, velvet character that is underlined by the blackberry fruits. The aftertaste is dense, concentrated and rich. Drink from 2025. (4/1/19)."

93 points Peter Moser (Falstaff): "Deep dark ruby, opaque core, discreet rim brightening, somewhat restrained, dark berryish fruit, ripe plums, blackberries, DELICATE licorice. Good complexity, juicy, black fruit, integrated tannins, DELICATE nougat, tight and persistent, good length, has development certain ageing potential. (5/24/17)"

92 points Andy Howard, MW (Decanter): "This beautiful château is one of the first major properties encountered heading north on the Route des Châteaux. Situated in a woodland setting, this 94-hectare estate is situated on sand and gravel soils, and produces fresh, early-drinking and great value wines. Medium-bodied with some graphite, mineral notes adding to the ripe blackberry fruit. 12 months ageing in oak, 40% new. Drinking window 2022-2034. (11/30/21)."

92 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2016 Cantemerle has developed beautifully with élevage. Pliant, silky and exceptionally balanced, the 2016 has the pedigree and complexity to allow for a number of years of very fine drinking. Moreover, the 2016 delivers serious flavor intensity without being at all heavy. Smoke, iron and cedar add character to a Haut-Médoc that has a lot to offer. Drink: 2018-2036. (Jan 2019)"

92 points Chris Kissack (Winedoctor): "In this vintage the blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which accounts for 52%, with 39% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. The élevage was in 40% new oak, for 12 months. I find a quite stalky nose here, with nuances of redcurrant leaf, pomegranate and red cherry, with some smoky notes. There follows a similarly smoky and stalky palate, with a nice textural substance which serves to wrap up this leafy fruit, along with a seam of chalky minerality and fresh tannins. A good wine, but one in a rather cooler, fresher and more challenging style than is often seen in this vintage. This feels quite difficult compared to the primeurs sample, and I wonder if another bottle would show better? (Dec 2018)"
