95 points Robert Parker: "One of the most Burgundian-styled wines of the appellation is Charvin’s Chateauneuf du Pape, made in a style not dissimilar from the classic vintages of its nearby neighbor, Rayas. The deep ruby-colored 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape reveals a gorgeously scented nose of kirsch liqueur, plums, and figs. It boasts an expansive, full-bodied palate, great purity, a sensual, silky texture, and a long, flowing finish with raspberries, cherries, licorice, and a hint of roasted Provencal herbs. Always a model of symmetry, balance, and complexity, this is as complex and elegant as Chateauneuf du Pape gets. (2/26/04)"

95 points Jeb Dunnuck (Wine Advocate): "More open and exuberant than the 2000, with a sweeter core of fruit, the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape tastes like the essence of this region, with its garrigue, leather, ground herbs and sweet, licorice-laced blackberry fruit. It too is medium to full-bodied, balanced and beautifully textured on the palate, with a mature, yet still youthful profile that’s perfect for prime- time drinking over the coming 2-4 years. (8/27/14)"

94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "Bright, deep red. Exotic aromas of raspberry liqueur, flowers, garrigue and pepper. Dense and thick, with impressive solidity but also a compellingly velvety texture and terrific verve in the mouth. Chewy flavor of raspberry liqueur. Builds and builds on the palate-staining, tactile finish. Has the sheer extract and structure to support extended bottle aging. (Jan 2004)"

94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A great showing by this bottle and the 2001 Domaine Charvin Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a textbook, old-school Châteauneuf that delivers gorgeous garrigue, sweet cherry, mineral, and licorice aromatics, a full-bodied, textured mouth feel, impeccable balance, and an overall classical feel. While superb now and showing solid complexity and youthful fruit, this should continue to shine for another 10-12 years. (3/18/12)"

93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Of these recent vintages of Domaine Charvin that I tasted, the superb 2001 is head and shoulders amongst these other vintages. The bouquet is deep, pure and truly fine, as it offers up a sophisticated mélange of red berries, cherries, orange zest, garrigue, bonfires and classic Châteauneuf soil tones of hot stones. It is amazing how much more complexity and vivacity is found on the nose once the alcohol gets ratcheted down a bit. On the palate the 2001 is superb- full-bodied, deep, pure and flawlessly focused, with excellent mid-palate depth, impressive complexity and a very long, tangy and classic finish. This is the style of Châteauneuf du Pape that I fell in love with back in the vintages of the 1980s, and which is amazingly rare these days. (Nov/Dec 2008)"
