90-92 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "Apparently, it was Michel Bettane’s advice to plant some white in the Ile de Vergelesses vineyard. This has not been my favourite wine (because it is taking the place of the stunning red) but I am forced to admit that this is very good in 2020. The vines are getting towards 40 years old. Claudse notes that they find small grapes at the top of the plot, fatter below. The soil is a similar limestone to Charlemagne but gives off pear notes. Beginning to find its character which I used not to find. Good acidity too and a little lemon to finish. (Oct 2021)"
90-92 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "Very pretty, cool and admirably pure aromas are comprised by notes of green apple, lemon-lime and mineral reduction. The almost painfully intense medium weight flavors display even more prominent minerality on the clean, sneaky long and bone-dry finale. This would benefit from developing depth and that may well occur if given a chance. Drink: 2026+. (Jun 2022)"
Importer notes: "Of the four hectares that Chandon de Briailles owns in Île de Vergelesses, one hectare is planted to Chardonnay. It's a clay and limestone soil, which is a part of the same geological break as Charlemagne; with more clay at the bottom of the parcel and very calcareous at the top. The chardonnay, planted in 1985 and 1991, is in a perect location mid-slope facing east. Fermented and aged in two 1,000L Stockinger barrels. Bottled in September 2021 because it aged much slower in the large barrels."
