93 points Christy Canterbury, MW (TimAtkin.com): "Riveting in its overt expression of red cherries, roses and peonies, the nose is a full-on, über-pure Pinot Noir delight. The palate is moderately rich and enclosed by a seamless wall of sweet tannins. The acidity gives the palate a pleasant crunchiness right through the spice drawer finish. (2025)"
90-92 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2023 Beaune Aux Coucherias 1er Cru was picked on the first day of the heatwave. It has a complex, engaging and clearly delineated bouquet, veering more toward black fruit compared to Champy's Hautes-Côtes cuvées, with brown spices, cep mushrooms and light sea spray notes. The palate is medium-bodied with finely knit tannins. It now veers the other way toward red fruit, interlaced with (again) brown spices, thyme and white pepper. Quite austere toward the finish, this is a long-lasting Beaune Premier Cru that should age with style. Drink: 2026-2040. (Jan 2025)"
Bill Nanson (Burgundy Report): "‘(Always windy here, so it’s a cooler area. Just up the route de Bouze – after the houses and Route des Vaches). A large, and perfumed nose – that’s a beautiful perfume – yes! Hmm, the wine is much more direct and architectural than the nose was suggesting. A touch of barrel visible in the flavours (exacerbated by the previous wine from neutral barrels) but long. Not really austere but wait 2-3 years… (1/16/25)"
