95 points Alistair Cooper, MW (Decanter): "2005 was a cool vintage with generally low yields. This is made up of 78% Cabernet from Agrelo and Uco, and 22% Malbec from Gualtallary, aged for 24 months in French oak barriques. It has a deep, brooding, Cabernet-dominant nose with cassis, saddle leather, fig and cedar, and a very pretty, light floral touch. The palate has a dense, concentrated core with firm, rounded tannins. It's only just beginning to open up, revealing some leafy secondary characteristics. It will age majestically. Drink 2019-2035. (02/12/19)."
94 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): "($123 list; this represents a selection of the best fruit from the Catena Zapata vineyards) Full ruby. Superripe aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate and licorice, enlivened by minerals, violet, pepper and herbs. Then penetrating, sharply delineated and impressively concentrated, with a serious backbone supporting its very fresh currant and mineral flavors. This strikes me as less exotic and porty than the 2004 version, not to mention less exotic than the 2005 Nicasia Vineyard bottling. Still a tad tight in the middle, but the vibrant, echoing finish suggests that this wine will have even more to say in five or six years. (Jan/Feb 2009)"
94 points Anthony Rose (The World of Fine Wine): "(78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Malbec; vineyards: La Piramide, Domingo, Adrianna, Nicasia) Rich ruby, browning; distinct aromatic maturity, with gamey, animal notes, a floral undertone, sweet mocha oak, an almost Rioja reserve-like element, immediate plump, sweet, fleshy, dark, the Cabernet bringing a refreshing note of mint, the tannins, soft and supple, gradually creeping up with a market savory finish. (Issue 65; 2019)"
