97 points International Wine Report: "It is delicate and at the same time solid in the sensorial profile rich in sweet notes of black cherries, sour cherries, agapanthus flowers and violet wild. In the background, the noble nature manifests itself with hints of chocolate and wet asphalt. Full body, velvety tannins and a compact and delicious finish. Opulent and muscular it remains graceful and brilliant. Better from 2022."
96 points James Suckling: "Floral notes of fresh and dried violets and spicy cloves. This is a full-bodied red with juicy red fruit, spiced plums and hints of tea leaves. Firm but caressing tannins. So rich and polished at the same time. Drink after 2025 and beyond. (11/11/20)"
95+ points Monica Larner (Wine Advocate): "[$120 list] The Castello Romitorio 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta is beautiful in the way you would regard a contemporary painting awash in color, texture and broad brush strokes. It doesn't all line up at first glance, but then you are magically aware of the symmetry—between the lifted fruit aromas and the grounded spice and oak. The wine's various moving pieces come together in harmony. Thanks to its softly integrated tannins, it also shows great versatility in terms of its drinking window. You can enjoy it in the medium term or wait for later. Production is 6,900 bottles. Drink: 2024-2045. (Nov 2020)"
95 points Michaela Morris (Decanter): "Filo di Seta sits at the foot of the Romitorio hill facing the revered Montosoli cru. A mix of Galestro, clay and limestone, the plot boasts a significant presence of surface quartz crystals. In the 2016, aromas are both savoury and floral with bay leaf and liquorice underpinned by lilac. It is fuller, denser and richer than the estate Brunello, with some youthful chocolatey oak, but it doesn’t sacrifice brightness. Packed with flavour and a long chewy finish, this just needs some time to integrate all of its elements. Drinking Window: 2024-2039. (Mar 2021)"
94 points The World of Fine Wine: "Very deep black-red: brooding, among its peers. Warm, masterful, authoritative: a wealth of exciting banked-up fruit, warm stone, and summer undergrowth. Very concentrated and firmly structured, with plenty of acidity and tannin shaping and firming the cool, curranty fruit. The nose suggested a slightly more flamboyantly ripe wine than this in fact proves to be. Very 2016 in its style of firm freshness. High in quality, with many years ahead. (2021)"
