97 points Falstaff: "Brilliant, medium-dense ruby. Appealing nose of ripe plums and cherries, finely drawn, some walnuts. Develops with elegant, fine-meshed tannins, builds up well, lots of juicy drinking flow, lots of dark chocolate in the finish, firm pressure. (Mar 2018)"

96 points Wine Spectator: "Offers crushed berries, with flowers and sandalwood. The nose is reserved, but interesting. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long, long finish. Very tight and stylish. Racy and powerful. Needs time. Best after 2011. (4/30/09)"

94 points Eric Guido (Vinous): "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova lifts from the glass with a wonderfully mature bouquet, blending earth tones and dried flowers with hints of tobacco, soy and dried blueberries. Silky textures verge on velvet as a whiplash of zesty acidity adds energy and masses of ripe red berry fruits settle upon the senses. It finishes incredibly fresh with a tart berry and citrus tinge and adolescent tannins that continue to hold on without hindering the 2004s energetic persona. While its bouquet shows a bit of its age, the Tenuta Nuova remains irresistible throughout. Drink: 2024-2030. (Jan 2025)"

93 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova reveals layers of dark perfumed fruit intermingled with French oak, spices, minerals, violets and licorice. The Tenuta Nuova is impressive mostly for its textural richness and sheer depth, both qualities it has in spades. The finish is long, sweet and pure. Here, too, the wine will need at least a few years in bottle before its full range of aromas and flavors emerges. Neri gave the Tenuta Nuova 30 months in medium-sized French oak tonneaux. (Jun 2009)"

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This vineyard-designate expression from Giacomo Neri shows gorgeous depth and intensity. Aromas here include red berries, currants, anise seed, new leather, pipe tobacco and Spanish cedar. Its texture is rich, firm and ripe with berry nuances. Drink after 2017. Cellar Selection. (Oct 2010)" Bastianich & Lynch (Vino Italiano Buying Guide): "Giacomo Neri's 'Tenuta Nuova' Brunello di Montalcino is a high-impact wine with silty tannins and toasty oak buttressing its great mass of fruit (it spends a total of 27 months in casks of various sizes)... Overall, critically acclaimed wines that offer a lot of pleasure when young."
