95 points Ian D'Agata Wine Review: "Good bright red. Highly perfumed, almost decadent aromas of red cherry, crystallized redcurrant, mulberry, red plum and caramel on the nose, complemented by violet and sexy spices. Broad, lush and sweet, with an exotic high-toned quality to the spicy yellow peach and red cherry flavours. Sound acidity shape and balances the creamy mouthfeel extremely well, while harmonious acidity extends the luscious flavours on the long, horizontal finish. This glossy wine finishes impressively broad and horizontal. This Barolo is not exactly shy in the amount of octanes it boasts, but Canonica’s genius and talent are such that you’ll hardly notice. Canonica makes by far the best Barolo wine from the Paiagallo cru of all; in fact, he is the one producer whose wine showcases that Paiagallao can deliver wines of grand cru ilk, something which I would have never thought possible had I limited myself to tasting only the wines of other producers. Drinking window: 2028-2037. (May 2025)"
94 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2020 Barolo Paiagallo is deep, fleshy and imposing, with terrific balance and notable palate presence. Macerated cherry, rose petal, blood orange and chalk are all beautifully delineated. The 2020 offers gorgeous depth and tons of pure energy to match. My only quibble is with its slightly elevated alcohol. Creamy, silky tannins wrap it all together in style. This is a fine effort from one of the most reclusive growers in Barolo. Drink: 2027-2042. (Jan 2025)"
