92 points PinotFile: "[$50 list] 13.9% alc., 250 cases. Clones 777 and Wädenswil. 40% whole cluster, wild yeast fermentation in 3-ton open-top Taransaud wood fermenter for 14 to 21 days, aged 12 months in 30% new and 70% neutral Francois Frères French oak barrels. Moderate reddish purple hue in the glass. Haunting aromas of black fruits, forest floor and violets. Mid weight flavors of dark red and black fruits with muscular tannins. The wine lacks subtlety upon opening, but the charming fruit emerges over time in the glass. Nicely crafted, with deft integration of oak, this wine needs a few years in the cellar. (3/14/16)"

92 points and 'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(250 cases, 13.9%). A ripe yet fresh nose combines notes of plum, dark cherry, briar, earth and a discreet floral hint. There is solid density to the relatively powerful middle weight plus flavors that possess good muscle and punch on the firmly structured, robust and ever-so-mildly rustic finish. In classic Shea Vineyard fashion this is a big, "take no prisoners" pinot that is definitely going to require at least a few years to emerge from its tannic shell. Despite the impressive size and weight, the balance is largely impeccable save for a noticeable touch of backend warmth. Drink: 2022+. (Jan 2017)"

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "[$50 list] The Shea cuvée has more stuffing than the other Broadley Pinots, with clean strawberry-cherry flavors. There's a streak of caramel running through the middle, and overall it's a well-balanced, forward and flavorful wine that will drink nicely now through the early 2020s. Alcohol 13.9%. (Jul 2017)"

Producer notes: "Transparent core, medium body, rich ruby red. Ripe black raspberry aromas mingle effortlessly with an edge of cranberry and floral spice, with subtle earthy/forest floor aroma. Rich flavors of black cherry and raspberry open mid-palate and are embraced by bold forward and mid-palate acid/tannin profile, with earth, cola, and chalky minerality on the finish. The Broadley Shea selection demonstrates a delightful nose and tightly wrapped core of black fruit and cola. The finish is there, but will be more enticing after a few years in the cellar."
