98 points Robert Parker: "The 2012 Quella (from a steep nine-acre vineyard in the eastern Vaca hillsides) has an opaque purple color, a gorgeous nose of white flowers, sweet blackberry and cassis fruit, and a touch of vanilla and graphite. Full-bodied, like its siblings, with great fruit extract, terrific purity and richness and high but velvety tannins, this wine should also benefit from another 3-5 years of cellaring and keep for 30+ years. Drink: 2018-2048. (10/29/15)"

97 points Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider): "Inky in color, the wine is intensely concentrated, opulent, round and powerful. There is a depth of flavor combining black and blue fruits, smoke, vanilla bean, licorice and dark chocolate. The layers of deep fruits are impossible not to notice. But it's the lusty, luscious styling on the palate, with grace, roundness and purity, that leave the biggest impression. Drink now, if you enjoy primary fruit, or age it, for more earthness. Either way, this is a special bottle of California Cabernet Sauvignon. (11/12/17)"

96 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2012 Quella is such a gorgeous wine. Dark, poised and also a bit reserved, the 2012 is in a great place today. The first signs of tertiary complexity are present, yet the 2012 remains quite fresh and vibrant for a wine of its age. Dark cherry, plum, tobacco, incense, cinnamon and dried autumn leaves all build in the glass, framed by bright acids that pull it all together. This is one of the best showings yet from the Quella. Drink: 2023-2032. (May 2024)"

94+ points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): "Bright ruby-red. Slightly medicinal, liqueur-like scents of kirsch, blackberry, blueberry, violet, minerals and licorice; at once slightly high-toned and very youthful. The densest, thickest vintage to this point; powerful and penetrating but also very ripe, with a bitter chocolate note and a savory quality to its dark fruit flavors. This very backward, muscular wine closed up with air, with its tannins becoming increasingly dominant. Lay this one down for at least another seven or eight years. Drink: 2024-2038. (Jun 2017)"
