96 points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): "Bright red-ruby. Very ripe, inviting aromas of plum, tobacco and caramel oak. Wonderfully sweet and deep on the palate, with red and darker berry and plum flavors complicated by spice and mineral elements. Surprising harmonious acidity gives this very rich, large-scaled wine lovely definition and inner-mouth perfume. Finishes with a serious dusting of ripe tannins and superb resounding length. This wine was actually rather tightly coiled when I first tasted it from bottle but even though it boasts terrific reserve for aging, its insidiously suave texture makes it thrilling to taste today. Drink: 2022-2037. (Jun 2017)"
95 points James Suckling: "Wonderful aromas of sage, mint, dark berries, and carroway. Full bodied, with layers of dark berries and dark chocolate that lead up to an intense finish. They don't make wines like this anymore. Powerful and nostalgic. Let this sleep for another 6 years. Start pulling the cork in 2016. Find the wine. (4/11/11)"
95 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Another highly expressive wine, the 2007 Melbury is a pure joy to taste. Sweet tobacco, herbs, dried flowers, menthol and licorice add aromatic intrigue. There is a good bit of complexity and raciness in the glass. Even so, the 2007 could use a bit more time for the tannins to soften. I imagine the 2007 well drink well for another decade or more. Drink: 2017-2030. (Nov 2017)"

93 points Wine Spectator: "Tight, firm and focused, with a trim, concentrated, structured mix of blackberry, wild berry, currant, mineral, cedar and sage. Full-bodied, then clamps down on the finish, where this shows its cedary cigar box edge. To be released spring 2011. Best from 2012 through 2022. 1,200 cases made. (10/31/10)"
