Smells of crushed cooch grass, hot stones, muscovado sugar. Dark and rugged, full of life and lusciousness. Treacle, pomegranate molasses, chocolate cake spiked with ginger. Afrikaans vinegar pudding (seriously, there is such a thing, and it is shamefully good… is this a built-in food pairing?). Apricots every which way: fresh, jam, baked in syrup, dried.
