97+ points Yohan Castaing (Wine Advocate): "A blend of 45% Pinot Noir and 55% Chardonnay, the 2012 Brut Rosé Cuvée Elisabeth Salmon is a real success, wafting from the glass with aromas of red berries, rose, peony, orange blood and dried flowers. Medium to full-bodied, vinous and broad, it's dense and deep with a multidimensional core of fruit, racy acids and a textural structure, concluding with a long, delicate, mouthwatering finish. This is one of the finest rosé I've tasted at this address. Kudos! Drink: 2024-2054. (10/24/24)”
97 points James Suckling: "This has a lovely copper color with aromas of cloves, spiced apples, raspberries, gingerbread and pastries. Delicious yeasty and spicy undertones. Excellent density and focus, with fine and firm bubbles, yet it’s light on its feet and so fresh. Long, chalky and salty at the end. Chardonnay and pinot noir. 3.8g/L dosage. Drink or hold. (5/3/24)"
97 points La Revue du Vin de France: "Elisabeth Salmon 2012 is one of the greatest rosé Champagnes on this full-bodied, ripe vintage. Extraordinary aromatic fullness: small berries alongside pomegranate and pomelo. What length! A fantastic, vinous rosé still in its prime. It will evolve beautifully. (2025)"
96-97 points Essi Avellan, MW: "(55% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir). Billecart-Salmon’s Valofroy vineyard in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ provides the colouring red wine component to this deep, peach-toned cuvée. The rest of the grapes are grown in Chouilly, Avize, Mesnil-sur-Oger, Cramant, Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Aÿ and Ambonnay. A mere 2,9% of the cuvée sees oak. Spice laden nose with deep Pinot Noir tones. Dried apricots, sour cherry, Mirabelle plums, tea and tangerine. Succulent and silky-flowing palate of vinosity. There is a lot of volume to it, but the wine carries itself until the long finish in a tight and seamless manner. A refined, delicious whole, which delivers a lot of pleasure already now. (Aug 2024)"
96+ points Sarah Mayo (The Wine Independent): "Vibrant light coral colored with glints of rose gold, the 2012 Elizabeth Salmon Brut Rosé is a youthfully exuberant 55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot Noir blend coming from 85% Grand Cru and 15% Premier Cru vineyards in the exceptional 2012 vintage. 97% cold-fermented in stainless steel with a small 3% barrel vinified red, it underwent partial malo-lactic fermentation and was finished to Extra-Brut with a 3.8 grams per liter of dosage. Aromatically coy at first, it opens to alluring notes of dried blood orange slices, apricot coulis, Meyer lemon wafers with a whiff of butterscotch and white cardamom. Crisp and finely textured, the light to medium-bodied palate laces up a subtle intensity of citrus peel, morello red cherry, and hints of ruby red grapefruit with an exuberant acid vibrancy that animates the pinpoint, shimmery mousse. No doubt a very bright, coquettish 12-year-old at the moment, this 2012 Elizabeth Salmon is enjoyable but will take on more grace and even more personality with age. Disgorged in the first quarter of 2023. Drink now to 2040. Tasted June, 2024. Alcohol 12%. Drink: 2024-2040. (6/20/24)"
96 points Tyson Stelzer (The Champagne Guide): "(45% pinot noir, predominantly from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Verzenay; 55% chardonnay, predominantly from Chouilly, Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger; pinot noir red wine from old vines in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ facing due south; 85% grand crus and 15% premier crus; 3% vinified in barrels of more than 15 years of age; partial malolactic fermentation; disgorged third trimester of 2023; 3.8g/L dosage; origin code 121234; cork). Typically 50-55% pinot noir, chardonnay takes a slight lead in Elisabeth Salmon in 2012. As always, the core of pinot noir is sourced from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, and in this vintage the blending team tactically supplemented it with the cool, north-east facing slopes of Verzenay in place of the southern Montagne de Reims grand crus. Chardonnay upholds its classic sourcing from Chouilly, Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. A pale salmon hue has assumed a subtle copper tint at 12 years of age. Mareuil pinot noir delivers beautiful complexity of red apples, wild strawberries and red cherries, well supported by subtle dark spice and ginger complexity, more from a decade on lees than from oak vinification (just a tiny three percent here). Gracefully integrated acidity unites with the fine chalk minerality of lauded crus and impeccably handled, super-fine tannins to trace a long and enticing finish. This is a vintage ready to drink now and over the coming few years. One bottle lacked bead, fruit definition and freshness. (2024)"
96 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2012 Brut Rosé Cuvée Elizabeth Salmon offers up hints of red berry fruit, ginger, spice, rosewater, mint and crushed flowers. There is a feeling of classic austerity that runs through the 2012. I would prefer to cellar this for at least a few years, as it is quite reticent at this stage. Chalk, mint, white pepper and bright saline accents linger on the pointed finish. Dosage is 3.8 grams per liter. Disgorged: first trimester 2023. Drink: 2024-2037. (Mar 2024)"
95 points Tom Hewson (Decanter): "Elisabeth Salmon 2012 shows all the signs of being a true classic for Billecart-Salmon, beautifully balanced between the most alluring Pinot aromatics – black cherry juice, peach melba and fresh raspberry – and an engine of pure, persistent Chardonnay energy of bright clementine and zesty length, all lifted with subtle details of allspice, rose petal and nougat and delivered on an effortlessly silky mousse. Open for business, yet without the showiness that the wines of this vintage can sometimes display, it's a rosé of assured refinement and quiet intensity that seems set for a long future. 55% Chardonnay from Chouilly, Avize, Cramant and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger with 45% Pinot Noir from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ and Ambonnay, with 8.3% red wine addition from Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. 2.9% fermented in barrel, and released after 115 months on lees with a dosage of 3.8g/L. Drinking Window: 2024-2034. (4/11/24)"
95 points Wine Spectator: "[$280/750ml list] Sleek and elegant, with a seamless knit, this is finely textured, with the raw silk–like mousse carrying flavors of peach skin, white cherry and toast point that show hints of white blossoms, pickled ginger and oyster shell through the lasting finish. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Disgorged winter-spring 2023 (My Origin 121234). Drink now through 2035. (9/25/24)"
