98 points Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider): "This is a serious wow wine, that is one of the great vintages of all time for Beychevelle. The complex aromatics with their floral, leafy tobacco, forest floor, blackberry, and black currant profile is the perfect introduction to the wine. On the palate, the wine is deep, full-bodied, concentrated, long, and rich, ending with layers of elegant, soft, lifted black and red fruits. Drink from 2024-2056. (Oct 2022)"

96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "I was able to taste the 2016 Château Beychevelle on two occasions, and it showed beautifully both times. This is also the first vintage made in the new cellar. Medium to full-bodied, incredibly seamless and elegant on the palate, yet beautifully concentrated, it offers a heavenly perfume of spring flowers, violets, saddle leather, and blueberry and cassis fruit. A blend of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and the rest Cabernet Franc, brought up in 50% new oak, it’s still tight, taunt, and reserved on the palate, yet has the hallmark purity of fruit and balance of the vintage front and center. Hide bottles for 4-6 years, and it will keep for 25+ years or more. Drink: 2023-2048. (2/28/19)"

95+ points Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate): "The 2016 Beychevelle is comprised of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. It spent 18 months aging in 50% new and 50% second use barrels. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it is a little broody to begin, opening slowly to reveal subtle savory notes of dried herbs, charcuterie and black olives before breaking through to a profound core of warm cassis, baked black plums, red currant jelly and candied violets. The palate is medium-bodied and delicately played with a quiet intensity of tightly wound nuances and fantastic freshness, finishing with a lingering savory lift. This latent beauty will require a bit more time than most 2016s, but it promises to overdeliver to those prepared to wait. (11/30/18)"

95 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2016 Beychevelle has a very intense, slightly more introverted bouquet than other 2016s that I have tasted: blackberry, incense, cedar and light graphite aromas emerging with time. This is quite Pauillac in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a well-built and structured Beychevelle with ample freshness - more than the 2010 tasted alongside. Based on this showing, the 2016 might be entering a closed phase, so cellar it away for several years. Tasted at the Beychevelle vertical at the property. Drink: 2028-2055. (Mar 2023)"

95 points Jane Anson (Inside Bordeaux): "(47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc). Deep ruby red, with nuance and movement to the colour, signaling its St Julien finesse. This is a wonderful example of the quaity of 2016, still in primary fruit mode, although with plenty of freshness and juice, waves of crushed mint, hedgerow, blackberry and cassis fruits, tannins pretty muscular at this point. Harvest October 3 to 18, 60% new oak for ageing. Alcohol 13.5%. Drink: 2036-2044. (5/28/24)"

95+ points Lisa Perrotti-Brown (The Wine Independent): "Made from 47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 Beychevelle is deep garnet-purple in color. It comes barreling out of the glass with boisterous notes of crushed black plums, boysenberry preserves, and black raspberries, plus suggestions of mocha, black olives, smoked meats, and cumin seed. Medium-bodied, the palate is densely laden with black fruit preserves and savory layers, framed by firm, grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and fruity. Alcohol 13.5%. Drink: 2023-2048. (7/27/22)"

95 points Chris Kissack (Winedoctor): "In this vintage the blend is 47% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with 5% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. The élevage was in 50% new oak. It was the first vintage to be made in the new Beychevelle cellars which sit alongside the D2. It has a very pretty nose of violets and plum cream, with a dark, smoky and slightly baked edge to the fruit. This heralds a very appealing substance though the start and middle of the palate, with a good roasted character to the fruits which mirror the confidence seen on the nose, supported by a firm central core of tannins. There is a great length to it as well. This is a robust and substantial result from Beychevelle in this vintage, and it is one which should do well in the cellar. (Dec 2018)"

95 points Peter Moser (Falstaff): "Deep dark ruby, opaque core, discreet brightening at the rim, subtle herbal spice, cassis, a hint of ripe black cherry, a note of tobacco. Juicy, good complexity, dark berry fruit, well-integrated tannins, blackberry on the aftertaste, pronounced fruit on the finish, good maturity and definite ageing potential. (5/24/17)"
