96+ points Jeb Dunnuck: "Another concentrated, structured wine from Bevan, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Curmudgeon offers ample red, blue, and black fruits intermixed with notions of iron, baking spices, and chocolate. This complex, medium to full-bodied, focused, incredibly impressive Cabernet has beautiful overall balance, lots of tannins, and a great finish. As with all these latest releases from Bevan, it will benefit from air and is in need of 4-5 years of bottle age. Don't let that deter you, though – it's a brilliant wine. Drink starting 2027. (6/6/23)"
95 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2021 The Curmudgeon is packed with inky dark fruit, licorice, lavender and sweet spice. Scents of violet, licorice, camphor and leather develop with air, adding further layers of nuance. This is impressive. The blend is Cabernet Sauvignon from Sage Ridge and Cabernet Franc from Sugarloaf Mountain. Drink: 2025-2036. (Dec 2023)"
94 points Joe Czerwinski (Wine Advocate): "[$225 list] Blended from the Sage Ridge and Sugarloaf Vineyards, Bevan's 2021 The Curmudgeon Proprietary Red is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon, with some Cabernet Franc this year. On the nose, it offers up plenty of ripe cherries and a touch of menthol. Medium to full-bodied, it's taut, silky and fine, without the weight and richness of Bevan's more hedonistic efforts. Drink: 2024-2035. (7/3/24)"
