92 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Matthieu Baudry’s 2023 Chinon “les Granges” comes in this year at a svelte twelve percent octane. As I have noted before, these vines are a shade over twenty-five years of age, planted on sandy and gravelly soils down close to the river. The 2023 les Granges offers up a beautiful, wide open bouquet of cassis, dark berries, tree bark, gravelly soil tones, cigar smoke and a hint of juniper berry in the upper register. On the palate the wine is vibrant, full-bodied and already generous on the attack, with a good core of fruit, lovely soil inflection, modest tannins and fine focus and balance on the long and complex finish. This is just lovely Chinon! 2024-2045. (May 2024)"

92 points Chris Kissack (Winedoctor): "The 2023 Les Granges comes from sandy alluvial soils close to the Vienne, and was vinified in stainless steel before moving into concrete. It largely remained in cuve at the time of my visit, but this is a tasting from a small-volume early bottling. It has a beautiful colour in the glass, concentrated and vibrant, which had me checking the vintage. A classically poised nose, filled with warm, dark but fresh fruit, cherry stone, blackcurrant and blackberry. The palate takes this and adds a more floral edge, producing a charming and lightly textured style, fresh with just the barest touch of tannin. Fine grained and absolutely joyous. Drink now. The alcohol on the label is 12%. (May 2024)"

Importer notes: "Can Cabernet Franc taste any more pure than this? Les Granges is the Baudry cuvée to drink in its youth, while the perfume of rose petals and brambly berries is at its most vivid and vibrant. At the domaine recently, it pained me to spit out each taste—damned professional duty!—but with the wine now arrived, I can confirm it’s that much more enjoyable when you let each sip go down all the way. With a slight chill, it’s about as gulpable as they come."
