94+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2021 les Cras from Madame Barthod is as beautifully sappy as any of these premier crus this year, but shaded more towards the black fruity side of the ledger. The nose offers up scents of black cherries, plums, pomegranate, violets, dark chocolate, a gorgeous base of chalky soil, pigeon, woodsmoke and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, very complex and sappy at the core, with great backend mineral drive, lovely balance and grip, tangy acids and a very long, complex and seamless finish. Solid and really quite fine on the palate, the most classical structure of all the cuvees, the wine that suggests it will need longest to come round. The moderately rich and impressively intense larger-scaled flavors possess excellent volume as well as an almost pungent minerality that adds a sense of lift to the markedly austere, compact and built-to-age finale. This could use more depth, but the Barthod Les Cras always seems to age extremely well. Drink: 2031+. (Jan 2023)"

The palate is medium-bodied with slightly candied red fruit on the entry, brown spices, hints of liquorice towards the finish with fine persistence.
