96 points Anne Krebiehl (Falstaff): "The most subtle touch of pine resin informs the beautifully pure red cherry notes on the nose. A hint of violet comes into play too. The palate is supremely elegant, providing a golden cut of fruit, body, tannin and freshness. The result is a most elegant, age-worthy wine that tells us more about Barthod's meticulous approach than about this generous vintage. Brava. (1/25/22)"

92-94 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "Only the 80 year old vines have been included. The young from 40 years are in the Chambolle as the fruit was intrinsically less well balanced. A clear pure deep purple colour. Rich and juicy dark raspberry fruit on the nose. Excellent intensity of fresh cherry fruit, not too powerful, good acidity and super length. Very successful. (Nov 2021)"

93+ points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "Clément Boillot opted to retain only the old vines for his 2020 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Chatelots, declassifying the younger plantings into the domaine's generic Chambolle-Musigny. Bursting with notes of minty cherries, sweet berries and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and vibrant, with impressive concentration and tension. Drink: 2027-2050. (Jan 2023)"

93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The Domaine Barthod 2020 Châtelots is another absolutely ringing success in this vintage. The wine is more obviously floral in personality than the Combottes, offering up a superb bouquet of red and black cherries, plums, violets, roses, chalky soil tones, pigeon and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is precise, full-bodied and very elegant in profile, with great backend mineral drive, a lovely core of fruit, ripe, buried tannins and excellent balance and grip on the long and complex finish. First class Chambolle! 2034-2085. (Nov/Dec 2021)"

93 points CellarTracker.com community score.

91-93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "There are also just two barrels of the 2020 Chambolle-Musigny Les Chatelots 1er Cru this year, though this cuvée works better than the Aux Combettes at the moment. There is more fruit concentration on the nose with attractive blackcurrant, wild strawberry and briary scents. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black cherry and strawberry fruit, fine mineralité and quite a deep, lightly grippy finish. Very fine. Drink: 2024-2038. (Dec 2021)"
