99 points Robert Parker: "A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, this is clearly the greatest Angelus until the 2000, 2003 and then the perfect 2005. Beautiful, sweet plum, blackberry and blueberry fruit soar from the glass of this opaque, purple wine that still hasn’t lost much in color. Deep, opulent, voluptuously textured, full-bodied and multidimensional, this is a stunner and just now approaching its plateau of full maturity, where it should stay for at least another 20 years. (Aug 2015)"

98 points Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate): "Very deep garnet colored, this has quite an exotic nose of Chinese five spice and Chinese dried plums with underlying hints of black olives, licorice and sandalwood. The palate is full bodied and richly fruited with firm, fine tannins, crisp acid and a long finish. (Nov 2011)"

98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 1990 Angelus is fully mature today, yet will keep for another two decades or more. Black currants, spice-box, cured meats, cedarwood and roasted herb aromas all soar from the glass of this ripe, full-bodied, powerful Saint-Emilion. With full-bodied richness, an opulent, broad, expansive texture, and thrilling mid-palate depth, drink it anytime over the coming two decades or more. Drink: 2017-2037. (12/12/17)"

97 points Chris Kissack (Winedoctor): "From a double magnum. This is now approaching thirty years of age, but it remains convincing, and it from this format it is certainly superior to my last encounter with this vintage. It has a beautifully dense core, with a mature, honeyed, tawny-oxblood rim. Classic and delightfully old-school on the nose, with scents of smoked truffle, black tea, fine leather and tobacco pouch, this is smoky and confidently mature. The palate is silky, with tobacco and leather at the start, then cigar box and tobacco leaf, touched with smoky ash. It has an impressive texture, silky and composed, yet fresh with a fine energy. There is even a little grip here still. Magnificent, and while not likely to improve on this performance there is no rush to drink here, from this format at least. (Apr 2019)"
