A powerful, brooding wine, the 2019 presents an exotic mélange of dark red-toned fruit, rose petal, chocolate, spice, crushed rocks and blood orange. Time in the glass brings out a good bit of Cabernet Franc freshness, as well as the driving tannins that are so typical of this site. Winemaker Graeme MacDonald gave the 2019 41 days on the skins (with some bleeding in fermentation) and then 20 months in barrel. Ecotone is a very rugged site that tends to produce wines of notable structural intensity. I imagine it will take a few vintages to fine tune all of the elements here. The 2019 is a very fine start for this new project, even if it’s a bit of beast. Drink: 2023-2031. (Dec 2023)"
