96 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine was fermented in amphora then aged in new French oak. It offers a lush display of blackberry fruit and a broad streak of barrel toast. Highlights of espresso, moist earth, a touch of smoke and char all combine gracefully, in a bold, robust wine with immediate appeal. The long finish brings mocha, caramel and sandalwood, along with dark chocolate. Alcohol 13.6%. (Jul 2021)"
95+ points Erin Brooks (Wine Advocate): "Each berry for the 2018 Pinot Noir Richard Hermann Cuvée was snipped by hand from its stem and grapes were fermented in a 500-liter terra cotta amphora. Medium ruby-purple in color, it takes its time to unfold on the nose, fresh strawberries and raspberries emerging over time with accents of dried lavender, tar, forest floor and licorice. The medium-bodied palate is firm and super fresh, youthfully coiled but hinting at much, more to come, and it finishes with great length. Give it another 2-3 years in bottle. Only 40 cases were made. Drink: 2020-2028. (Oct 2020)"
