94-96 points Jasper Morris, MW: "80% whole bunch, racked early and back to barrel. Planted 1909 and still in great condition. Dense mid even quite deep purple. The nose is fabulous, a rich attack of concentrated deep dark fruit, lots of nuance, with ripe dark red cherry coming to the fore, then dark raspberry too. Long, seamless velvet texture, stems hardly show except to prolong the finish. (Nov 2018)"

92-95 points/'Don't miss!' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "Here there is no reductive funk to mask the ultra-floral, cool and pure essence of red currant and earth scents that are trimmed in a deft touch of wood. There is an interesting natural sweetness to the medium-bodied flavors that are also quite beautifully detailed on the caressing bitter cherry pit-inflected finale that delivers excellent depth and persistence. I very much like the balance and this fine Maz too should age effortlessly. Drink: 2032+. (Jan 2019)"

92-95 points Fine Wine Review: "Dark, somewhat earthy Mazoyères fruit, but with the finesse of the vintage, plus the concentration of old vines. No rusticity here, just as I observed with other 2017 wines from Mazoyères. These are the oldest vines in estate — probably more than 100 years, planted just before World War I in selection massale. 80% whole clusters. (12/10/18)"

92-94 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2017 Charmes-Chambertin les Mazoyères Grand Cru comes from the oldest vines owned by the domaine, now 104 years old, which apparently have no disease and still offer good yields at around 30hl/ha. It has a quite a backward bouquet that gradually unfurls to reveal crushed stone, broom and Provençal herb aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, the 80% whole bunches neatly integrated, and gentle grip toward the finish. Good potential here. Drink: 2022-2040. (Jan 2019)"
