96 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a magnum identified as > 0247 with <5 cm of ullage). Wow, what a stunning and positively ethereal nose with everything that a serendipitous combination of great vintage, terroir and bottle age can create, including spice, earth, oriental tea, game and earth yet such descriptors don't begin to capture the sheer breadth of aromatic expression here. The supple, intense, indeed even robust and muscular flavors are delicious and the sap completely coats the mouth on the velvety finish. The flavor profile is not necessarily elegant as the structure is almost rustic yet the nose is so fine that it makes one overlook such nits. In short, the nose is perfection with flavors that are impressive but not quite at the same level. While there is no improvement to be had, from this format the wine will hold for another 30 years. Another magnum recently tasted was not quite as good but it was certainly close and yet another was equally spectacular. Drink: Now. (Mar 2008)"

5 stars, Michael Broadbent's Vintage Wine: "Frangrant, lively, massive and masculine for Musigny yet soft and lovely. Tasted 1984."
