93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "In contrast to the valley floor les Garants, the lieu à dit of Poncié is located high up in the hills of Fleurie and is one of the highest elevation vineyards in the commune. Perhaps that is the reason the 2020 Fleurie “Poncié” from Domaine Chermette comes in a full point lower in octane than the les Garants, and this wine is more proportioned along the classical lines of what we have come to expect from one of Fleurie’s finest single vineyard bottlings. The bouquet is pure and expressive, offering up scents of sweet cranberries, red and black cherries, gamebird, fresh thyme, a beautiful base of soil, sweet stem tones, bonfire and a hint of violet in the upper register. On the palate the wine is focused, full-bodied and chiseled, with a fine core of fruit, excellent mineral drive and grip, ripe, buried tannins and a long, tangy and complex finish. The balance here is utterly classical and simply perfect for aging. One can drink this wine right out of the blocks, but it will be so much better five years down the road! Great juice. 2021-2050.
