95 points Monica Larner (Wine Advocate): "This is a terrific new wine from Mauro Veglio. Fruit is drawn from a small parcel in Paiagallo, in the comune of Barolo, that measures less than one hectare and is situated at 300 meters above sea level. The vines are 35 years old on average. The 2016 Barolo Paiagallo is a beautiful wine, slightly open and accessible with a soft and gentle quality of fruit. It delivers delicate tones of wild berries, dark plum and pressed violets. This interpretation is very pretty, and the wine explores the very fine and nuanced side of the Nebbiolo grape. There is a light brushing of crushed white pepper and mineral on the close. Some 4,000 bottles were made. Drink: 2024-2040. (Jul 2020)"
95 points James Suckling: "A big, rich red with plums, walnuts and some cedar undertones. Tar, too. Full-bodied and layered with chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. A new cru from here. Needs time to soften and open. Try after 2023. (8/5/20)"
94 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2016 Barolo Paiagallo is a wine of real beauty. Vivid and translucent, with terrific energy, the 2016 is a real standout. In the glass, the 2016 is potent yet refined, with exceptional balance and so much promise. I can't wait to see how it ages, especially once the tannins have started to soften a bit. Time in the glass brings out the wine's dark, virile feel, as well as quite a bit of power. The 2016, made by Alessandro Veglio before he joined his uncle, Mauro, was done with a lighter touch and aged in cask, so it stands out stylistically in the range. Drink: 2023-2036. (Feb 2020)"
