93 points Monica Larner (Wine Advocate): "The Mauro Veglio 2016 Barolo Castelletto is a darkly saturated expression of Nebbiolo with aromas that naturally pull toward dark fruit, cola, aniseed and balsamic herb. These give the wine a determined and powerful bouquet. The wine's structural presence is more elaborate too, and you taste the youthful tannins. These characteristics underline the wine's Monforte d'Alba geographic identity. Mauro Veglio farms 3.5 hectares in Castelletto, with some fruit going to this wine and some to the classic blended Barolo. Skin macerations are relatively short (lasting up to 20 days in the case of this wine), and the finished wine ages in new and neutral oak for two years. Some 6,500 bottles were made. Drink: 2024-2040. (Jul 2020)"
93 points James Suckling: "Impressive depth and concentration of fruit with blackberry, mineral, stone and black-tea character. It’s full-bodied and very tannic. Chewy. Needs time to soften. Try after 2023. (8/5/20)"
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Aromas of dark-skinned berry, camphor, iris and oak-driven spice shape the nose. On the full-bodied palate, assertive fine-grained tannins accompany dried cherry, exotic spice and crushed botanical herb. Drink after 2026. (Sep 2020)"
