This red wine comes from the cradle of wine in the country of Georgia, where winemaking can be traced back to 6000 B.C. The indigenous variety Aladasturi is here spontaneously fermented and aged in large clay "qvevri" that are buried underground. Well over 1,000 years ago, when various caliphates ruled Georgia, wine from this particular grape was so cherished amongst the Islamic occupiers, they named it "Aladasturi" or "God Approves." As a result, they were able to consume the wine as often and freely as they desired in good conscience. This is a vibrant, elegant and uplifting red that's produced in small quantities (~200 cases) with each label sporting a handwritten bottle number and signature.
