94 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "A unique wine, with darker blackberry fruit, hints of spice on the nose and a firm, grippy texture that would repay mid-term cellaring - a standout in the regional appellation in this vintage. Ostrea is produced from a patch of old vines in Gevrey near the border with Brochon. The parcel was originally planted in 1919 and averages 90 years of age with vine replacements. This is an exceptional Gevrey village. 'Ostrea' refers to the generous inclusions of fossilised oyster shells in the clay and limestone soils. Drinking Window: 2022-2030. (Nov 2022)"

92 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The old vine bottling of Ostrea, which hails from four parcels of vines that lie near the Brochon border in Gevrey, many of which were planted all the way back in 1919. These very old vines seem to be less bothered by seasons with hydric stress such as 2020 and the wine has really turned out beautifully this year, offering up a very classy nose of cassis, black cherries, espresso, grilled meats, a fine base of black minerality, a touch of bonfire and cedary oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and again, really sappy at the core, with lovely transparency and grip, fine-grained tannins and a long, complex and beautifully balanced finish. Superb juice. 2030-2070. (Nov/Dec 2021)"

It has a more mineral-driven, reserved bouquet compared to the Gevrey-Village, fragrant and beautifully defined, the 40% whole bunch lending freshness. The palate is fresh and vibrant with gentle grip, good weight, taut and fresh with a saline, Morey-like finish. Classy, for Burgundy-lovers who like their Pinot a bit cerebral. Drink: 2025-2045.
