99 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "Breathtakingly ripe, lush and fruity, with a deep mulberry and cassis fruit but no lack of spicy mineral depth. This Chambertin is immensely pleasurable now, yet there is plenty of substance, extract and structure to age for decades to come. The 1.85ha that Trapet farms over three parcels in Chambertin is slowly being converted to planting individual vines on stakes (‘en échalas') without hedging the canopy. One can only describe the results as extraordinary. Drinking Window: 2026-2060. (5/23/21)"

99 points/'Coup de Coeur,' La Revue du Vin de France: "Still developing, the Chambertin is a concentrated mass of fine flesh and sap; an unmistakably earthy wine, the intense framework of which prolongs the finish with panache. (2021)"

99.3 points CellarTracker.com community score.

97-99 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2018 Chambertin Grand Cru contains 100% whole-cluster fruit this year and sees 50% new oak during its élevage. It comes from three parcels. The exquisitely defined bouquet of mineral-driven red berry fruit unfurls wonderfully in the glass. The palate has stunning definition and a killer line of acidity that cuts through some of the purest fruit I encountered in over 100 visits in the Côte d’Or. So delicious that I had to take a cheeky sip of this elixir. One of the wines of the vintage. Drink: 2023-2048. (Jan 2020)"

95-97 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate)

93-97 points Jasper Morris, MW: "A heady mix with an attractive deep colour, quite a warm plump nose, this has maybe suffered a touch from the heat, currently lacking the compact assurance of most of the Trapet wines. It is certainly a luxurious example with a little touch of liquorice behind and exceptional length. Has not quite taken on the grace and nobility of Chambertin yet. (Nov 2019)"

96+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2018 Chambertin from Jean-Louis Trapet is stellar on both the nose and palate. The perfectly ripe bouquet delivers a complex blend of red and black cherries, plums, grilled meats, a gorgeous base of soil tones, woodsmoke, a hint of mustard seed, vanillin oak and a dollop of raw cocoa. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with firm, ripe tannins, a proper sense of reserve out of the blocks, great focus and grip and a very, very long, soil-driven and classic finish. Great juice. 2032-2085. (Nov/Dec 2019)"

96 points Tim Atkin, MW (Decanter): "Jean-Louis Trapet's holdings of Chambertin - three parcels totalling 1.9ha - are some of the most extensive in the Grand Cru and run from low to high on the gentle slope. The 90% whole bunch fermentation is extremely effective here, adding spice and freshness to a wine that has impressive detail, floral perfume, filigree tannins and stylishly integrated wood. The balance is beautifully achieved. Drinking Window: 2023-2032. (Oct 2019)"
