93 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigna Montebello Sette is another terrific wine in this range from Tolaini. Bright, punchy and translucent, the 2016 is super-expressive from start to finish. Sweet red cherry, mint, orange peel, spice and rose petal are all nicely lifted in a wine loaded with character. Drink: 2021-2031. (Sep 2020)"
93 points Michaela Morris (Decanter): "Located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, Tolaini crafts this Gran Selezione from a distinct plot in its Montebello vineyard. Planted at high density in 2000, it sits on limestone-rich gravelly Galestro soil. This opens slowly with mint, cherry and vanillin, but is less obviously straightforward than it sounds - savoury accents of celery and bay laurel broaden its scope. There is lovely aromatic definition here, while a mouthful of stones and plum on the polished and robust palate is accompanied by vigorous, chalky tannins. It finishes with great tangy acidity. Drinking Window: 2022-2034. (Mar 2021)"
93 points Wine Spectator: "Cherry, rose, iron and tobacco aromas and flavors are the hallmarks of this vibrant, elegant red. Balanced and firmly structured, ends with a long, mouthwatering finish that echoes bright fruit and mineral notes. Best from 2024 through 2045. 850 cases made, 250 cases imported. (6/30/21)"
93 points Wine & Spirits: "This wine, from a parcel of sangiovese vines planted in clay and galestro soils, is smooth and elegant, with notes of orange zest and sweet spice that balance the lightly tart cherry flavors. (Apr 2021)"
92 points James Suckling: "Lots of ripe, juicy fruit with dried-strawberry, plum, bark and chocolate character. Full-bodied with round tannins and a savory finish. More fruit-driven style for the appellation. Drink or hold. (10/27/20)"
